How to Give Our Herbal Solution to Your Horse

One of the extra benefits with these herbs is that the horses love them. All you have to do is squirt a little on their tongues so they know this will be a treat and watch them come back for more.

Gently shake the container before each use to mix any settled herbs. Then use one of the following methods:

Our preferred method: Mix the herbs with a small amount of warm water (1/2 oz or 15 cc – so it fits in the syringe) and give to your horse directly from the syringe. If not possible, mix the herbs with a small amount of water, and put the Herbal Solution in a bowl to allow your horse to eat it separately. The third method to give our Herbal Solutions is to ‘top dress’ a very small amount (1/4 cup or less) of food with the Herbal Solution.

If you are giving your horse more than one of our Herbal Solutions, mix and administer each solution separately. Herbs should not be given within two hours before or after medication.

I've got to tell you, Red and Anna ADORE their herbs. Red is soooo bad in fact that when I am done giving him his herbs he comes and tries to get Anna's while I am feeding Anna. I have to push him away and Anna keeps pinning her ears at him to leave us alone. Red just cannot get enough of the stuff and his response to it is fabulous.

I will keep you posted on both Red and Anna. I am just happy with the results so far and verrrry happy that it is soooo easy to give it to them. I have never seen them enjoy a product so much.

Instructions for Mixing Herbal Solutions

Use the equipment provided in the plastic bag so your measurements will be accurate.

  1. Measure 3 scoops of herbs into the cup.
  2. Add warm tap water up to the 1-1//2 oz. line.
  3. Tighten the cap and shake to mix the herbs and water thoroughly.

If using the syringe:  Remove the syringe from its container.  Place the closed syringe into the cup and pull the plunger up to draw the solution into the syringe.  Now you are ready to go.  Don’t worry if the herbs and water separate before you get to your horse.  Just shake the syringe a bit to remix it. Gently insert the tip of the syringe in the corner of your horse’s mouth.  Squirt the solution at a slow enough rate for your horse to swallow easily.  Please, do not shove this solution in quickly.  It tastes good, so just give your horse the time to discover that these herbs are a treat.  Soon it will become a delightful part of the routine for both of you – a healing solution you can both enjoy.

Relax with this – your horse will love you for it.

Working with the Herbs

One of the most important things to remember with Dr Thomas' Herbal Solutions is to learn to listen and trust yourself and your horse in terms of dosage and combinations.

As a general rule, it is best to not use more than 3 solutions at any given time as the therapeutic properties of the herbs will be diluted and their effectiveness will be reduced. More importantly, if your horse is on 3 solutions then at least one of them is a foundation formula.  Foundation formulas are very important because they target the primary issues in your horse’s body at a systemic level.  With this primary issue addressed, given time and adjustments, the other symptomatic issues will be taken care of by your horse’s body during the recovery process.

We can provide you with the guidelines but every horse is different.  Most caretakers know if their horse has always needed a slow introduction of anything new, or just needed less than the standard.  Or, they always needed a little more.  Use this knowledge with the herbal solutions.

When you are treating acute or severe cases exercise your options and start with an accelerated dose.  For example: If your horse is on 3 scoops 2X a day - increase to 4 or 5 scoops 2X a day. Or, if your schedule allows, use 3 scoops 3X a day.  As a rule, from our observations and experience, “more often” can be the more effective choice.

Since not every horse is not an “average horse,” the fundamental concept in dosing is to realize that one size does not fit all. Every horse is unique and must be treated individually.

The principle underlying the Weight-To-Dose Dosing Guideline is based on gauging the effective concentration of the Herbal Solution as it is distributed throughout the body. This dosing strategy is especially useful for horses whose body weight falls outside of the normal range.

The Administration Chart with dosing guidelines is provided as a reference for calculating dosages. It is still important to keep in mind that this chart serves only as a guideline--not an absolute rule. Every horse is unique.
