Vikki Bernstein and Brandy - New Bern, NC
Brandy is now about 7. She was at on the 24 hour kill list at the shelter and we took her as a foster dog so she wouldn't be put down. She was about 1.5 years old - best guess from us and our vet.
She had some definite undesirable issues. She bonded with us and would not let anyone in the house - her hair went up and she growled. She did the same thing when they left. We had a trainer come to our home and we worked on these in order for her to be adoptable. However - we had all bonded and we adopted her. She is a very loving and sweet dog and definitely wants to be with her humans. She does have anxiety, especially to loud noises. Thunder, shotguns, fireworks put her over the edge. She trembles all over, begins panting and foaming at the mouth. She will try to hide behind the toilet (she is over 60 lbs) and I would hold her tight. Thundershirts did not work.
Our veterinarian prescribed Xanax. We moved to North Carolina from Northern CA and it thunders here almost daily. We were giving her Xanax and then switched to lorazepam. We hated medicating her this much.
I had used For the Love of the Horse previously when we had 5 horses. I believe they saved one of my horse’s life. He had been misdiagnosed and was very ill. I received a supplements from For the Love of the Horse and they made a huge difference and this particular horse looked terrific. He gained weight, shed out and did many rides for about 5 years.
I called For the Love of the Horse for Brandy and after discussion, Leah thought she could send something to try. I received the Settle Down and the first dose was more than she needed. I now give her about a heaping tablespoon, mixed in water would eat it over her dry food without any additives. She is now a happy dog. She still doesn't like the thunder but the trembling, panting and foaming at the mouth have ceased.
She prefers to be close to a human or will get in our bed. WE are so relieved and pleased. Brandy is back to her old self, rolling on her back to be cute and playing with the younger dogs.
