My beloved 17 year old paint gelding, Dakota, who I have owned since he was a baby, was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease two years ago and it has been an ongoing struggle ever since. He was on Pergolide but was still lame and it seemed that nothing we did worked. The Pergolide did not work and every spring he just got worse but this year has been the real test. In April, he was lame but getting around ok. Not great, just ok. My wonderful vet, who has been involved in this from the very start, took x-rays again and they showed that Dakota’s coffin bone was sinking in both front feet, so we started the treatment so many of you are familiar with: Bute, Banamine, DMSO, etc. With no real change in his condition, he was in his stall 24/7. He did not want to walk outside. All he did was get up to eat and then he was back down. I was living in the barn because I was so scared something was going to happen, worse than what we were already going through, and it did. In July he developed abscesses in both front feet and at that time, he would not get up. He was in so much pain, had lost a lot of weight, and had pressure sores all over his body.
I was desperate to find a treatment that would work. I was on the web looking for some other type of treatment and came across For Love of the Horse. It was just amazing and a true miracle. Everyone was so great and informative regarding the treatment for Dakota. Their concern is overwhelming. Dakota has been on the herbs for 5 weeks now and is bright, alert, and back to his funny personality. He is walking better than he has since he was diagnosed two years ago.
