My mare Achilles Kilkinny had developed a strong case of heaves. She is a 10 year old black Friesian sport horse mare. She is a trail horse and a parade horse. Unfortunately she hadn't been ridden in months, as her rapid breathing stopped her from working. Her breathing was so fast and hard at times. Easter 2021 was the worst I'd seen her. Her cough was hard and frequent.
I began her on heaves formula, I didn't see much change in the first week or so. I watched her respiratory rates daily. Before she was on her herbs, she ranged from 24-30 breaths per minute. Slowly it came down. I introduced total immune health. After about 1 months her breathing hung around 14-16. And the last few checks she was from 12-15.
She remains on total immune health and will start heaves formula in spring if needed. The fall of 2021 She began rides on the property again. And she got to attend her first parade and remain calm because she felt much better.
